Hi chaps,

Want to upgrade my dad's XP3200 Athlon XP to something a like Core Duo.

He runs Prime95 24/7 on his current PC so needs to be good for that - any suggestions?

Doesn't need to be good for games - im just going to get him a cheap PCI express card so just need the CPU/RAM and motherboard for £500.

This might do, it should be good for an overclock to maybe 3ghz(possibly more but it depends how lucky you are) and I've included a PCI-E graphics card that doesn't use system Ram.

HS-000-SB Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler (HS-000-SB)
£28.99 £28.99
GX-108-SP Sapphire ATI Radeon X1300 256MB DDR2 AVIVO TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-108-SP)
£39.99 £39.99

Take a look at the bundles, they'd be ideal, then just add an Nvidia 7300 or something with passive cooling....

Why hardware better for overclocking?....... he said its for his dad and its important for stability, well prime at least, a basic board with some basic memory and a 6600 would proberly be more ideal, and that tuniq is overkill for him imo.

Maybe, I'm not too sure, I thought Prime could use the additional speed of a good solid overclock? Conroe chips do seem to be pretty stable when overclocked but yes, you certainly could go the other way and start with the faster chip but a more basic overall system. :)
