CPU really hot 74*C on load (3dmark)

It's not broke it's just rubbish. Stick it on the bay and call it lesson learnt. All of these so called self contained kit's should be avoided. £30-50 would have got you a top end air cooler and you would have had better temps.

why would he thank you for that ?

I think temps are over-rated for overclockers unless you are planning to keep the CPU for say 6 years !!

I run my Q6600 @ small prime load temps of 76C with zero problems - totally stable - Vcore is 1.47V under load

I personally think anything under the point it throttles is fine - so probably up to 80C

Mark.

Do whatever you have to & get the temps down to a Max of 65c under load, You will Thank me for it.
Although Water is Best when done right Air can cool quite adequately on a much smaller budget. Personally I just like Air as I know where I am with it.

Different chips and different ideal temps.

My el cheapo watercooled rig (cost me £60) keeps my q9650 at 4.2Ghz at 54-55c after 8 hours prime.

Hell i suspect the Intel stock cooler cools better than his setup :p

lol looks simpier to my ideal temp and I m on air (ocz vennetta 2) soon to be titan :P

must be a bad water block:S

Im no expert on water cooling, but i know a fair bit about good air cooling, i ran a q6600 at 3.8ghz on a TRUE black, temps below 70c. I had used an arctic freezer and a noctua and a tuniq tower, all decent coolers, but none could cope with my q6600 at 3.8ghz like my lapped TRUE black, ive since changed to a q9550 and gonna stick with the TRUE before i make my first tentative steps into custom watercooling.

What is the stock vcore for q9550? this bios looks complex, i just used the auto option and selected q9650 lol
It's 1.25v. But like I said it will happily run at 3.4 with just 1.186v! :D

hey guys sorry to bring this up again,
temp2aym.jpg

i'm not too sure if the tigar is the problem or the CPU, core 1 is the hottest followed by core 2. 3 and 4 seem normal and their idle temps are good. Bad mouthing of tigar to cpu?

Ok guys what you think of these temps?

temp3s.jpg

I found my AS5 (few years old lol) and wiped the stuff it had on it and applied the AS5, then made sure it was sitting on CPU proper as it is VERY fiddly and kept coming loose.
Finally got it on properly.

Temps look great took speedstep off for test

Ok i'm sure u guys are gonna get bored of my post but i went upto 3.51Ghz on stock vcore, i just upped the FSB to 413x8.5 done 3dmark temps under 58 on all cores. On prime its under 61*c!

i'm a happy bunny. I really didnt want to change the cooler as it looked neat so when you look in the side window u can see the gfx card , OCZ reaper and v.raptor X :D

yh mate, really happy. was hoping the cool did what it was meant to do and now it does :D

might aim for 4ghz when i get time, got the whole system for £550 few months used by my mate so i got full warranty on every part. funny thing was i was recommended most of the hardware lol

hmmm my northbridge temps are around 60*c even with speedstep and idle. i read its normal on this mobo on few searches....what you guys think?

Go the temp down on north bridge idle 47ish load 53. manualy set volt in bios.

Does speed step cause error in prime when overclocked?
