After a budget cpu for my father in law, must have AVX2. 6 core 12 thread preferred as a minimum. Will need to pair with mobo etc, want cheapest options. Old Ryzen 3000 series maybe???

Do you need a mobo\ram as well or is this just a CPU upgrade?

Maybe an idea to keep an eye on the members market section (Assuming you have access) as a lot of people will be upgrading due to Christmas and could get a decent bundle or processor.

He'll need everything he has an 12 year old SFF dell optiplex cant remember exact one but there is no upgrade path when i checked. He is an avid photoshop user and likes to keep up with the programs updates, part of it now requires avx2, he can still use it but he is worried with it now being cloud based he may no longer to use it in future. It does not matter to him if its lightning quick, he's 80! i believe he has 16gb ram and i think that is also causing problems and again no upgrade path so 32gb would benefit.

with regards MM not been around for a bit so need to post a bit to regain access
