I have a Toshiba A200 and it seems to run at extremely high temps. I live in a hot country and we don't have airco in the flat, so I think the laptop is really struggling to cool itself.

I have to throttle it down to 900MHz most of the time, but even then, it runs at about 85c. I'm just a bit worried that the thing will go on fire! It has shut itself off once before when I was on a video call and you wouldn't believe how hot it was to touch.

I never turn this laptop off because I use it all day for work and radio for sleep. If I do turn it off, it won't turn on again, it takes about 20 times to POST, so I now leave it on 24h. It doesn't like being off.

Anyway, I'm looking for some sort of cooling pad. I've been looking at some fan-based pads but they look a bit crumby and I'm worried about the extra noise from fans.

Any recommendations?

have you thought about maybe replacing the thermal paste on its processor? and blasting the dust inside away (if there is any).

I should probably do that. According to S.M.A.R.T, it's been on for 420 days, so I should really open it up and have a poke around.

The thing is, when I used it in Ireland last month, the temps were fairly normal, like 50C. I just think it's so hot here and it needs extra cooling.

They don't design them just to work in cooler countries !
If the fan is running all the time....clean out all the crap !

If the fan is not running...fix the fan

maybe why it will not post, dead or siezed up fan and 90% of the time it's the user's fault by running the laptop on beds/carpet/dusty enviroments etc...
