Under heavy load my CPU tends to reach 77-78 degrees, idling at 36-40. I have reapplied thermal paste for my 212 CM cooler to little effect, I tried to follow Arctic silvers guide to how to apply thermal past to my CPU a thin line down the centre.

Now its possible I have done it wrong again but I wanted to check if you guys thought this was an ok temperature because it seems on the high side to me.

I wasn't sure if there was another issue maybe just with poor airflow through my case or if you guys could just give me advice on how to apply paste?
 
My CPU is stock volts and clock. Shampoo I would definitely look at de-lidding in future but for a more immediate change I have just found some Arctic silver paste that I had lying around do you think that would be better than the stuff Cool Master send with their 212s?
