CPU simpleton needs help ?

Hi,
I am a bit of a computer novice so please go easy on me....
I've got a Abit AW9D Intel 975X mobo with 2gig of Corsair DDR2 XMS2-6400 Ram with currently a Prescott 3.2GHz.... my questions are:
Is it worth upgrading to the Conroe 6600 ?
If so is it just a case of swopping the processers over ?
Will the mobo and ram handle it OK ?
Will it run nice and cool with the current Zalman fan ?
I use my PC for graphics work such as Illustrator and Photoshop with the odd bit of lightweight gaming chucked in.
Any help greatly appreciated.

It's technically just a case of dropping the new CPU in, though I'd personally back all my stuff up and reinstall the operating system / drivers to avoid any possible complications/annoyances.

You will certainly see a marked improvement with the E6600, which is pretty cool at stock so the Zalman will be more than fine. Your mobo and RAM are also very good and will have no troubles.

You may have to update the BIOS if you have an older version than BIOS V12.
