Hi everyone,

Sorry to ask but I really need some help and advice.

I bought one of those Chinese x79 motherboards which shows compatibility with the following:

The processor supported:i7 Serial /E5-V1/E5-V2

I7 39xx serial/ E5-16XX E5-26XX E5-46XX serial

such as :i7-3960x E5-2603 2609 2620 2630 2640 2650 2660 2670 2680 2690

E5-2603V2 E5-2620V2 E5-2630V3 E5-2640V2 E5-2650V2 E5-2660V2

E5-2670V2 E5-2680V2 E5-2690V2 E5-2695V2 E5-2696V2 E5-2697V2 and so on

Now I purchased a Xeon E5-4617 but it does not fit into the socket as the cpu locking tabs are in the wrong place. I've done some further reading and it could be due to the cpu supporting 4 socket motherboards but I'm not 100% sure on this as if I look at images of the 2670 and 2660v2 they look ideantical from the rear/pin side.

Can any of you shed some light or give me some advice on the Xeon processor that will fit?

Yeah, I'm a Grade A idiot...was putting the chip in the wrong way around...turned it and it went right in...total idiot!!

Runs like a charm now though, very happy with that cpu.
