CPU speed being misreported when o/c'd

I've had my Q6600 for a year now and it's been happily chugging along at 3GHz (9*333) since I had it. I never clocked it further at the time because I was too lazy tbh :D

Anyway, I was bored today and since I have PC6400 RAM I thought I'd make good use of that and clock the processor to 3.2GHz (8*400).

CPU-Z and Coretemp both report it as running at 3.2GHz fine, although windows, 3DMark06 and the script I use with mIRC report it as running at 3.6GHz

Also, when I originally O/C'd the CPU from 2.4GHz to 3GHz I gained nearly 2000 extra points in 3DMark06. Since overclocking the extra 200MHz today, I only gained an extra 200 points

I was hoping a overclocking guru here could clear up this strange behaviour.

My m/b is an Asus P5K Premium, GFX card is a 8800GTS 512 (stock).

This is pretty common, windows thinks your using the default multi of 9x so reports your speed as 3.6 ghz (9x400). if you also want to see an increase in 3dm06 clock your vid card a bit as well, should see a nice increase.

Ahh, I see what you mean with the default multiplier.. thanks. Stupid Windows :D

Since 3DMark06 is so heavily CPU dependant, I was expecting an extra 600 points or so for that extra little CPU overclock rather than an extra 200 points.

Anyway, I do read these forums quite often and I know how much 3DMark06 is a waste of time these days so I won't mention it again :p

Thanks again.

Wouldnt be sure what a q6600 @ 3.2ghz, and a clocked 8800gts 512 would achieve, but iirc my own quad at 3.4ghz and the gts @795/1095/2039 scored 14900 ono.
