CPU Spike since upgrading Graphics card?

Hi guys,

So, I have just upgraded my graphics card to a 7970 Matrix platinum, running games at about 70c and about 50% performance draw according to CCC.

This is coupled with an AMD 8350 @4ghz with a H50 cooler powered by a Corsair RM750. I figure my specs are all relatively well matched.

The Problem....

I play games and stream them on Twitch TV on a single PC where the PC encodes the video aswell as playing the game. Before, with a single 6950 i had Zero problems with this set up. Since installing the new card, could it be a coincidence that my CPU cannot keep up as i keep getting huge FPS drops making streaming impossible. I have Core temp (stays under 50c) and the performance tab of task manager open on a second screen to see the CPU usage go from 30% to 80+ in a split second for a couple of seconds causing the PC to slow down and create this performance hit.

Has anybody had this before or does anybody know how i remedy this?

Your help is much appreicated!

My CPU spikes in the past has always been driver issue related. Usually graphic drivers.

A little off topic, but you have a 8350 sitting at practically stock speed and a AIO loop keeping it in safe temperatures, have you considered upping the clock some mroe when you figure out the issue? OC the 8350 will give a much better balance to the system for the 7970, and for free as well!

Yeah man, I have the Asrock 970 Extreme 4 so there is OC options in the BIOS. Will defo look into it to help boost the rigs overall performance....

Just by chance, have you got a 7970 and if so, which drivers do you use?

I am using the latest Beta Drivers and have tried the newest certified drivers too.

Not sporting any AMD GPU at the moment (hopefully will change in teh next two weeks).

Try to see if a fresh install of drivers helps. Stab in the dark but has helped me in the past!

You could probably run it at 4.4Ghz will little to no tweaks required by just upping the multiplier.

Have you looked to see what BIOS version you are running and compared it to the site, they list what each iteration has fixed so may be worth a look!

On a H50? I would watch out. My H60 couldn't even tame my 8320 @ 4.2ghz.

I also have a feeling his board is 4+1 too.

True but for the sake of seeing if his issue was effected (alleviated) by running his CPU faster it may not be a driver problem. Maybe 4.4 is too high but doesn't it run at 4Ghz out of the box anyway?

As A7F has said get the beta's installed. AMD have a removal utility to use before installing new drivers.
