CPU stuck at x6 ratio

Hi,

I recently had a Q6600 @3.0 Ghz

After upgrading some other parts of my computer i reset everything back to stock speeds.

However, now my CPU runs at 1.6Ghz, since the multiplier is at x6. I changed this to x9 in the BIOS but it doesnt seem to have done anything. CPU-Z shows my CPU at 1.6Mhz (x6) with very occasional flickering to 2.4Ghx and x9.

Core temp shows my CPU at ~2.1-2.2 Ghz and switches between x8 and x8.5. The current CPU temp is ~35 C

What can i do to force it to x9?

Thanks a lot

It's Speedtep, it's normal. When your CPU is idle it clocks it down, only when you're doing something it clocks back up. It's a nice way to save power and reduce temps during idle.

If you really want it to run at 2.4ghz all the time, then just disable Speedstep in BIOS and turn your windows power settings to High Performance.

You don't need to force it.

It's a power saving feature called Speedstep.

At idle the multiplier is reduced to 6 to save power. Under load it increases to 9 automatically.

Open CPU-Z then run something to stress the CPU. You'll see the multiplier increase.

Ahh ok. Thanks very much. I just noticed my computer was so much slower than it was before and thought maybe somethings not working... I guess when i overclock it again it'll be back to normal!

Cheers
