CPU support question

Here is the CPU support list from that site http://www.gigabyte.us/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3897 it does mention any ivybridge celerons, but its the right socket.

Since the sandybridge Celerons run ok on the same bios revision, i would be tempted to say yes, but don't hold me to it.

that board is the revision 1 board though,

here is a link to the revision 2. which does have that celeron supported http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4015#

Thanks, I didn't realise there were two revisions actually, I'll double check which I have.

I've ordered the Celeron anyway so hopefully it will work!

it wont work without a bios update, and to do a bios update you'll need a sandybridge cpu

can try it if you want but 99% sure it wont, ive had to flash one already for someone off here and seen few other posters with same trouble

Thanks for the advice.

Turns out I have a v2.0 motherboard so this should really work. I tried the CPU but it failed, after reading your post I put a Sandybridge CPU in, changed the BIOS to "FD" and tried again. Unfortunately it still failed!

I've given up and left the Sandybridge CPU in there. Wanted to post anyway in case anybody comes across this while searching.

I'm using the following:

Intel 2500K CPU
Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3

I wanted to change it to the following CPU

Intel Celeron G1610 2.7GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM

It just will not post with the Celeron, with the 2500K it's perfect. I've upgraded the BIOS to the lated "FD" release so not sure what else I can do.

With the Celeron I get no display and it gets itself into a reboot loop.

This is what my computer reports so it looks like the BIOS update was sucessfull.

[ 0.000000] DMI: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z68AP-D3/Z68AP-D3, BIOS FD 03/20/2

Hmm, it's actually not the UEFI one, that was labelled beta so I left it alone. Also the CPU support list stated FD BIOS.

The computer is at my parents house, I left it running with the sandy so will maybe try the UEFI BIOS next time I'm there.

Thanks for your help.

yh try the uefi, there is aa way to flash those bios's n im not sure without asking

think you need the flash file that comes with the bios not sure

beta's are safe to use btw
