In the bios the cpu temp was 39C. As soon as I restarted and got into windows, PC Probe II was reading the cpu temp as 46C.

So, did the cpu get 7 degrees hotter from simply starting up windows or is one of the temp readings less accurate then the other?

It propably heated up , yes. Readings should be about the same, it's the same sensor. Live it for a few minutem and check again... Seems high anyhow...

leave it in bios for a while and see what temp you get. Mine crept up to 37C just touching 38 after half an hour. During the day though (Monday) was quite hot. Typically around 36C for me, but yours is OC'd... What cooler are you using?

EDIT: plus just forgot to mention, if you've just booted, then thats not gonna be an idle temp is it. But then you knew that, which makes me wonder what temp your after? :)

Sorry I should have made it abit clearer, prior to me going into the bios the pc was actually on for afew hours :)

Im not too worried about the temps, if my rooms warm it idles in the mid 40s and hits mid 50s under load. If it hits 60C then il start to worry ;)

I see :D

On my other PC (intel though) there is a ten degree difference in mobo BIOS readings and PC Alert 4, so personally i dont trust windows software apps, hence the purchase of a fan controller for more accurate readings.
