cpu temp shows 29C on but but shows 40C on another program?

Hey guys, i just managed to setup my new computer which is an intel e6600 @ stock with a arctic freezer 7 pro and p5b deluxe motherboard.
I'm having some trouble finding out the real temp of my cpu, i recently went to bios and checked the cpu temp, it showed it was 29-30C. I then went to windows and installed a program called pc wizard 2006, but that program showed that both of my cores were running at 40C.

I'm not sure which one is right so i was wondering if anyone here can put me out of my misery and tell me which one is moe accurate.

Try Intel's TAT. Apparently that is the most accurate. Should find it by googling.

use TAT or coretemp, the latest speedfan (8 beta) also reads directly from the die on the chip, same way TAT and coretemp read the temp

ok so i downloaded cortemp and it says that both cores are running at 30-32C, is that ok? I'm running the cpu at stock so is that the normal temp?

My 4000+ used to run at 30 to 34 and anything sub 40c is healthy for idle. Edit: just spotted you upgraded in that case 32c is very good.

ive recently just brought an e6600 which is currently at stock with standard HSF with a P5B deluxe motherboard. Mine seems to be running really warm. Ive updated the bios. asus probe and bios read 60'C and core temp is 50'C. This is idle. Ive tested playing fear and the temp hit 70'C according to asus probe

Ive reseated the heat sink several times and played with the amount of thermal compound but the temps just wont come down. I have it in a lian li case with 4 case fans. Case seems fairly cool. What sholud this chip run at temp wise?

TAT read 51'C per core.

Is this worth making a sticky at some point? There seems to be a lot of folk making posts about C2D cooling issues.

C2D has a max thermal temp of 85C, plus the rest of the stuff on that article is very very useful.
