can you tell me the temps for a pentium 4 3-0d asus p5wd2 premium 775 chipset
cpu fan is artic cooling freezer 7 pro.....idle temp is 55 under load is 67...tia

I've seen exactly the same thing with both a 805 and 930 (couldn't resist when I saw the special this week at OcUK)

It seems to be down to the fan speeds. If you turn off PWR (Q fan control)) I got idle temps of 42 (mb remains at 36 whatever)....trouble is the fan screams at 3000rpm and it's only rated to 2500rpm)

The options for managed fan outputs don't seem to be able to work with this fan....most of the time the fan dawdles at 800/900 rpm which is just too slow and I get idle temps of up to 60.

It's actually not as bad when the cpu is being worked. With Q fan control on the "performance" setting temp seems to stay at 51/52 max....high but bearable. I presume the power management is based on both temps and cpu loading....it's just the settings seem too low for when it's not being worked very hard, and it is slow to respond when the temps do climb.

Ideal speeds for the fan would seem to be in the range of 1200 to 2300.....with 2200 being a good speed if you had to choose one for all occasions.....good cooling and reasonable noise.

But there dosen't seem to be a way of getting the MB to lock to these.....I'm going to play around swapping fan connections....Case1 seems to run faster than CPU.

Maybe a different HS + Fan is needed?

....update.

Couldn't put the cpu fan on the chasis fan1 header as it's four pin and there is a cap in the way.

Even with the Freezer pro fan running at 3000rpm the difference in load and idle temps was sometimes 20 degrees when slightly clocked

I wondered if the BIOS was overstating temps, but I guess not...

...I fitted up my old Hydrocool (found a great adapter to allow the fitting of the 478 spec bracket to the 775 mob) and now get temps of 31 at idle up to 41 under load at stock settings...system temp remains pretty constant at 36.

...even with it running @ 3.5Ghz (stock volts), I'm getting max reported temps under load of only 43 !...though the system temp has climbed to about 41...rock solid though.

The only answer would seem to be to get a fan controller, but I'm still not convinced the Arctic Freezer pro is the best solution on this board.

Think I need something blowing on the Northbridge cooler as well....but I can probably drop one of the case fans if I do that

I'll be keeping the water kit ;)
