i dont understand why ppl say that it is not safe to run my q6600 past 70c which has a tj max of 100c at the min i am stressing my laptop at 100% and the temp is at 75c and the tj max is 85c it must be safe otherwise laptops would be breaking down left right and center and it would cost intel a small fortune to replace all the chips so if it is safe to run at chip at 10c below its max it must be safe to run a quad at say 20c below its max of 100c at the min it doesnt go above 60

my cpu used to run at 70 under load, untill i redone to thermal compound, now it runs at 60 under load, still pretty high but safe, but i don't understand how a laptop cpu can get that hot, how long does the battery last :p i guess its still safe though

tjmax of 100c is safe within the intel specified vcore levels... most more than modest o/c take you way out of the the "safe" vcore zone.. high levels of heat and vcore are more likely to damage or degrade your processor... and therefore 75c is given as a guideline to keep within when clocking out of normal processor vcore ranges...

The Q6600 and the 65nm CPU as a whole seem to be extremely robust and I am quite sure that people run outside of these margins.. ofc its is everyone decision as to how they push their hardware but I think in general its solid guidance to give..

Mine will top out at 68-68-62-62 @p95 load @3.8ghz, but ive never experienced temps near theese in normal use, just after spending an hour or so playing far cry 2, and i checked the coretemp log and highest was 50'c.
