CPU Temp

Hi yall,

So now I have got my shiney new gfx card installed, I was looking at overclocking my cpu.

The problem I have is that it idles at ~55C, which I know isn't the best but its a stock cooler, but as soon as I run any kind of stress test the temps sky rocket and within seconds the comp either shuts down or the program that I'm running will abort the test.

The cpu will run BF3 and pretty much any other game I have at around 70-80c as far as I can tell and never shuts down even after several hours gaming.

Any clues as to what I should do?

re-seat the cooler with some new thermal paste and if you don't get idle temps of below 45 and load below 80 then you probably should get a new cooler.

tbh if you are looking to overclock you should buy a new cooler anyhow, you wont get very far with a stock one.

good luck

I am having a similar problem.

My CPU is idling at around 30-35 but when I give it full load with prime95 it going at very high temps

Are these temps very bad?

I have an Akasa Venom Vodoo Cooler ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-080-AK )

Any Tips?

EDIT : I am new at over clocking.

Those temps are very bad for that voltage and cooler, I would seriously consider a re-seat sooner rather than later.

Thanks I will try that right away :)

I had the Cooler fan not attached properly. ! reason for this is a set of 16g ram I have. Guess I will have to fit them smehow :)

Hey,

So I have reseated my cooler and teh temps have dropped to about 38C at idle, but still after about 2mins of the OCCT test, it aborts.

Is this still just a case of my stock cooler not being good enough?

what is the air flow like in your case
what other fans do you have in the case ?
how tidy is you cable management ?
these two things will make a huge difference :)

I have 3 other fans in my case:

120mm in the bottom front pushing air in.
80mm on the back near the CPU pulling out.
80mm on the side just above the gfx card pulling out.

Cable management could be better but as far as I can tell its out of the way the air would flow. Pictures below.

Outside of case.

Inside Case. Big fans airflow comes in from roughly where the HDD is at the bottom right hand side.
