CPU Temp ?

Hopefully someone can advise. I have just installed an i5-760 and get temps of about 50 C for normal windows usage and just over 70 C when playing BF3. Is this normal or do I need to improve the cooling ?

Also I have a Radeon HD5770 that gets up to 64 C temperature playing BF3 which seems OK. Is this right.

The PC runs fine in game etc but the case is a little warn where the hot air escapes for the CPU.

I have checked this forum and also the internet generally and haven't found any clear advice.

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, it is just the stock intel one that came with the CPU. The CPU is not overclocked as its performance is fine for my needs.

Since I play games like bf3 and do encoding which maxes out all four cores while running at a temp of 70c do I need to invest in better cooling ?

Any recommendations or advice is welcome.

A better cooler would give you the headroom for an overclock which would help in encoding/gaming performance.

Your temps are fine for stock though.

A small investment can get you a big performance bump in this area though.

That cooler should be fine to lower your temps or even a modest overclock. The Gelid Tranquilo also gets favourable reviews and is pretty quiet too. Good luck!

My old 8800GT would hit 112°C with the stock cooler lol!

As said previously though, an aftermarket cooler is the way forward, you'll get a bit more performance with an overclock as well then :)

If you can afford something a bit better than the freezer 7 then go for it as it will not make a massive difference and the Gelid is work the extra tenner any day of the week

Did a bit more experimenting and until I get proper cooling in place turning off
the CPU's turbo boost has dropping full load temps from 73 C to 65/66C. Reseating the heatsync and fan made little or no difference so will wait for the new CPU cooler.

Having read a bit more I think the air flow throught my PC is very poor and it needs proper case fans in the right places to provide cooler air for the CPU and GPU.

Thanks again for all the advice.

Fitted the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler and in a warm room my CPU temp has dropped to 36C idle (previously 50C) and 55C with all 4 cores running at 100% for a while (previously 73C). Turbo boost is still turned off as to be honest I don't really need it.

I just have a standard medium tower case with a vent on the bottom (has fan mounting holes) and two similar vents on the top and another at rear by the CPU. If I was to fit a decent fan at the bottom to bring in the cooler air and a fan on top and at the rear by the CPU to extract warmer air would this make much difference to my temps. If it would then I would be interested in doing it to see if the PC would run cool with turbo boost back on.

Appreciate any advice on this and estimates of what kind of temps I could get down to with all 4 cores at 100%.
