CPU Temperature

Hi all, about two years ago I purchased a pre-built computer from OcUK. My specs which concern my query are:

Antec 900 Case
ASUS P5W64 WS Pro (original BIOS version - not updated)
E6700 CPU with Arctic Freezer 7

Now, I seem to have very high CPU temperatures for this cooling system. With the lowest possible voltage for the CPU on default frequency (2.66) I get an idle temp of around 38-40C and a full load temp of around 55. My friend has the same case with the default CPU cooler and his CPU has much lower temperatures. Is there possibly something wrong with the motherboard temp sensor? I'm sure it's nothing to do with the airflow/cooling fans. I have used 4 different temp programs and they all show the same temps.

What were the software programmes you both used,
Room temps and fan speeds do take part in possible reduced temps on your friends machine.
Personaly I would so your temps are about right with the std cooler.

Is there no chance of it to do with the MB sensor/BIOS version? I've read two reviews of the P5W64 from Google and they have both hinted at the possibly, but I'm not sure.
