CPU Temps - are they high?

I have two systems: neither systems are overclocked and both run 1600mhz ram.

2600k @ 3.4ghz - titan cooler - running planetside2 or FFT-z stress test
temps hit around 70c plus on all four cores.

i7 3770k @ 3.5ghz - super quiet 22dba triple copper cooler - running FFT-z stress test - temps hit around 70c plus or slightly lower on all four cores.

I'm concerned that these temps are higher than what they should be.

can anyone comment on the above.

What cases?

What fan configuration for airflow?

AND DON'T YELL! if you what our help.
SUPER QUIET 22dBA TRIPLE COPPER HEATPIPE CPU COOLER must be a discription not the name of a cooler. I find no cooler by that name.

Titan Fenrir is a good cooler.

err..I'm not yelling I just copied and pasted the description for the cooler from a web page which just happened to be in caps...sorry.

The 3770k system is in a Fractal Define R3 - Black Pearl Case.

The 2600k is in a Coolermaster Sileo 500 Quiet Mid Tower Case.

I'm at work so I'm having to recall this from memory (then use web quotes), etc.

The super quiet cooler is an Intel model.

The fan configuration is whatever the cases offered at the time. There are no extra fans as far I'm aware.

okay.

R3 has what fans? I'm using R2 so know exactly what it is. With 2 good front fans, a bottom intake and raised up so you have 50mm clearance for bottom fans you shouldn't have any problems cooling case. Same for Titan with good fans.. 4x 8mm pipes do a good job. That's more cooling to 5x 6mm pipes in surface area..

The R3 case has one rear exhaust fan apart from the CPU cooler fan. There are no other fans active in the case as far as I can see.

The Cooler master case has again one rear exhaust fan and no other fan in the case.

I think they come with 2x 120mm fans in the front. Open front door than open the filter cover doors and there should be fans or space for 2x 120mm fans there.

If you only have the 1 exhaust fan in each case that would explain the heat issue. Does case feel warm when CPU is working and hot?

Yes there is space for the fans you mentioned. The cooler master case being all pressed metal can feel warm after some time. The R3 case seems to be OK as far as heat is concerned.

Is is possible that the CPU coolers are not fitted correctly/efficiently?

At this point in time almost anything is possible.

Are these new problems on old builds? New builds? Way to many thing unknown to tell what the problem is or the problems are.

The 2600k system I've had running for well over a year and it was a friend that commented on the CPU temps.

I've had some instability problems with the graphics card and thought nothing of it once I'd reseated the GTX570 and things seemed to be OK. To be honest I've never really looked at the temps of the CPU until now.

The 3770k system is quite new and I've only had it for a month or so and again I've not really been concerned with the system until I looked at the temps. It works fine so far and I've had no problems to speak of.

I suppose it seems to boil down to the lack of case fans in both cases.

Your older 2600 system could very probably do with a good cleaning. If no fans in front we will help you figure out which ones to get.

I modified my R2 and have TY-140 fans in front and bottom. 3x intakes, no exhaust fans 650-700rpm idle @ 22-25c and 950-1050rpm load @ 44-49c in 22c room. You cannot hear it below 900rpm and than just enough to know it's working. At full load the hot water radiators make muh more noise than computer does. ;)

Great thanks.

The 2600k system is pretty clean internally to be honest. It probably needs the extra fans as you have suggested. Although I'm not sure where they can go.

I will have a look tonight at the case and take some pics to post on this thread and hopefully you will be able suggest what kind of fans and where they could be fitted for best cooling efficiency.

With the 3770k system I can see where the extra fans could go. Again I will take a pic when I get the chance.

I thought you said there were no fans in the front of the R3? How often do you clean those front filters? And the bottom filters?
