Hi guys,

I've ran Prime95 for 1.5 hours and watched as the CPU temperatures fluctuated around 83c then upto around 97c then back down to around 83c and so on.

I suppose I was expecting cooler temperatures given the Alpenfohn K2.

Should I be content given the 4.4GHz overclock?

I've read Ivy Bridge runs hot but most people seem to say less than 90c is fine.

Thanks

Seems a bit high for a k2. What speed is the cpu at, and how much vcore are you using? With the same cooler and 1.3200v, my 3570k at 4.5ghz was maxing out at 75c on the highest core using intel burn test. This generates temps a bit higher than p95. Also, how much paste did you use, and is the cooler bracket secure enough?

I agree, that does look high, try 4.2 with 1.2 volts maybe? You dont really need 4.5ghz unless your after scores on benchmarks or a few more fps in some games. my 3570k at 4.3ghz and 1.2v runs at 60c with prime, and i think your cooler may be a bit better than mine ( xigmatek aegir ).

Was this a pre built system? If you remove the centre 140mm fan, using a long star headed screwdriver you can try tightening the two bolts that hold the coolers retention bar in place. Be careful not to overtighten as the screws are spring loaded.

Certainly was a pre-built system. Thanks for your advice. I've posted in the CS section too.

Your welcome, perhaps the cooler has came loose during transit. The guys in cs will see you right.
