Hey. i just want to ask what are acceptable temperatures for a cpu before needing to worry.

im running a Q9450 @ 3.00 ghz, but according to Pc Probe.. the cpu runs at 20-30'C

On Hw monitor, it shows.. Temperatures,
systin 35'C 35'C 35'C
cputin 25'C 25'C 28'C
Auxtin 34'C 34'C 34'C

but then underneath where it shows intel core 2 quad q9450 the core temps read

core 0 45'C
core 1 45'C
core 2 53'C
core 3 41'C

i dont get which ones are accurate readings.. do i follow the 24'C or the Core temps of 45/53 etc? .. :s sorry if this is pretty noobish but i never know which is the correct to follow :(

I would suspect PC Probe may look at socket temp, HW Monitor will read the actual core temps on the cpu.

Download Core Temp & Real Temp and compare temps.

downloaded both. :)

i dont think theres any problem with the temps at 45/50, id like them a little lower, im going to reapply some thermal paste soon, i heard artic 5 is the best? seeing as i was using a crappy budget one before from local shop

Nice wallpaper :P Theme looks cool too! Is that an alienware mod or does that come with alienware pc's?

What cooling are you using? As you've only done a 340mhz overclock on your chip, I wouldn't worry about temps unless you're pushing it in the mid 3ghz or if you're luckly 4ghz range.

Thanks :-) the wallpaper was actually off a different topic on Ocs I just liked it so I threw it in the auto changer lol, and the theme was a download I wouldn't pay the prices for an alienware because you can do so much more with the money one would set you back, the most I've gotten too without changing anything on the volts is 3.2, I'm not too good with what I need to change to up the clock, I'm running a arctic freezer on the CPU hopin to change it soon, and I have a 120mm front intake fan a side panel fan and an exhaust at the back (both 80mm) so nothing much on the cooling fronts really.. My case is really bad though haha

Ok Both Pc probe and that cputin is the main cpu temp, so say for example the spec of the Q9450 says max temp is 71.4°C you would look at the pc probe/cputin reading for that.

Now the the core readings are taken from a different sensor and shows the heat of the cores individually, a lot of times when people give there temp readings they are going by the core temps. For your CPU max for the cores are 100c

So For cputin/pc probe max u want to stay under is 71.4.
And for core temps stay under 100c.

Hope this helps.

:) yes thats helpful thankyou, looks like i have roughly 50-60 'C leeway on the cores before i need to be worried x

Well ideally best to set the max for cores at a more realistic 80c, but they are fine upto 100c.

Basicly all you have to do is make sure thermal monitoring is on in the bios, or whatever its called lol, and then if it does get to hot, it will shut down, by itself.
