I've got a Core 2 Duo E4300 1.80Ghz, currently not overclocked, using an Arctic Freezer 7 pro for cooling.

At idle it's about 42-44 degrees, rising to high around 58 when under load.
I don't currently have any case fans but am looking at getting some soon.

However, I've noticed the heatsink doesn't get warm at all, I can touch it anytime and it's not warm, does this sound like the heat isn't transferring properly between the CPU and heatsink or is it normal?

I usually keep the fan on the 'silent' setting so it's spinning at around 1100rpm, but the temps don't change more than 1 or 2 degrees if I have it faster.

Overclocking can take the temps up by 10 degrees.

thanks

Hi, ASF7 arent the best coolers but with a couple of 120mm fans i bet youd knock 8-10 deg off your current temp, so its not too bad considering.

I've now got some case fans. 1x120mm on the front blowing in and 2x80mm fans (1 on the back, 1 on the side) blowing out and the temps haven't changed.

Re-seat your heatsink, something is very wrong. I have a E6300 @ 3.15Ghz and my idle temps are under 30 degrees, even under load I have never seen it go passed 50 degrees.

Also have a good look at your cpu and the base of the heatsink, make sure thye are perfectly flat.

I think I'll get some Arctic Silver 5 and re-seat the heatsink as suggested

The MX-1 stuff that comes with the cooler is actually better than AS5, but do try & re-seat the HSF, you just maybe unlucky & got yourself a hot chip, I have had a few of them in the past.

Me E6300 was very similar when I had an ACF7. I now have an Ultra 120 Extreme, and temps are as seen in my sig. Much lower, but still not great. I just have a hot chip :(

ive got a artic cooler 7 on my 6600 and it idles at 44deg then when benching it goes upto about 55deg,ive just put it down to having a hot one as ive got a 80mm on the side and 120mm on front and back and still the same, never frooze on me or BSOD so it must be ok for those temps
