Hello just upgraded my cpu today to the i5 2500k and downloaded speedfan to see what temps i was runnning at. il post below what i got running just with my browser open on the net, i thought the temp was quite high and the room was quite cold with windows being open.

GPU: 39C
System: 22C
CPU: 87C
AUX: 92C
SMIOVT4: 23C
SMIOVT5: 23C
SMIOVT6: 23C
HD0: 23C
Core 0: 31C

I'm not 100% what temp my cpu before ran at but it looked quite high for doing basically nothing but browsing the internet. Any help would be appreciated.

27-25c is absolutely fine. Run some stress testing software e.g. Prime 95 and post back with load temps :)

Sounds like stock cooler to me. Mine jumps a lot too around 25-33 (i3 2120) Prime 95 is around 55 (core temps) but you have a quad.

edit - oh its not stock, temps are still fine :)

Should be able to on that cooler(or atleast get close). 4ghz only normally needs a little volt increase or none if you're lucky. Try upping the multiplier slowly up to 4ghz and stress test.

I'm just worried about overclocking right now with the temps im getting im running a game now and internet browser and its sitting at 42°C . If that temp is fine then great if a little high do i need a new fan or have i not applied the thermal paste correct when replacing the cpu today? Sorry for the silly questions im just useless around computers :P

42c is fine for gaming. You will never hit your max temp while gaming, unless its very CPU intensive, so its nothing to worry about ;)
