Hi there, newbie to this so please be gentle! Just installed an i5 6600k in my system and i'm curious about my temps at stock.

Sitting on the desktop i seem to be around 21-24 degrees.

Ran a quick stress test on Intel Burn test and at 100% CPU usage i'm siting around 50 degrees.. going as high as 52.

Is this normal levels for stock? or have i done something wrong with the thermal paste or evo 212... sorry i'm just a tad nervous about this!

Given the time of year, they're pretty good temps TBH, idle temps seem low actually for what is probably an ambient room temp of 19-22c at this time of year, what is the fan speed at idle?

the cpu fan is running between 690 - 700 rpm.

Thank you for your replies!

I use coretemp and display the average of all cores on my system tray next to my clock. The temps you have specified, if accurate, are very good, and are the completely normal operating temps for your chip. Your chip can't ever melt or explode, there's built in safety measures that slow it down, or even shut it down if it gets too hot, but you're talking into the 90s or over 100 before that starts happening. So 20-50 is what it should be operating at, which means you've done everything right! :D

They seem very good, is it a cold room? What are you using to read the temps?

REALTemp and HWMonitor. Room temp is 18 degrees according my Thermostat. (i live in Scotland, it doesn't get very hot here all that often haha)

Thanks for the replies guys.. my nerves have calmed haha

after 5 minutes idling on desktop.

Jeez they're low, what thermal grease / compound you using?

Nest says it's currently 26 in the house, i'd be cooler sat on your cpu!

Akasa AK 455-5G Thermal paste

Feeling a little daft having asked given the replies.. genuinely didn't know how hot it should run and i guess my nerves and fear of doing something wrong clouded my common sense!

It's what we're here for, there are no stupid questions (well, there are a few). Enjoy the PC it looks like it's running very cool !
