yeah its normal vista use a new technology called superfetch which drives the hard drive crazy especially after booting up after 30 mins or so it calms down a bit. also the new search indexing will thrash the hard drive and system restore nothing to worry about just highly annoying if u havent had vista that long. when i installed service pack 1 beta theres a lot less hard drive thrashing and the full offical version is being released soon hope this helps.

if its a brand new install of vista its more than likely superfetch is just getting used to your prefences ie: things u load applications u use the most it will die down after a while it drove me crazy 12 months ago and i posted the smae kind of questions you have asked here. dont worry its normal nothing wrong with your machine
