CPU Trouble... (i think)

Ill start from the beginning...
Built the PC a few years ago, had been running sweet.
E2400 @ 3.2ghz with Tuniq Tower, Abit IP35-e Mobo, Nvidia 8400GS, GeiL DDR2 800Mhz ram (the orange stuff)

Few weeks ago i experienced a few blue screens on my comp, they recovered fine saying i had issues with my display drivers. Updated the drivers and they appeared to dissapear.

Then one day windows wouldnt load... blue screened at loading page everytime.

Guessed this was ma GFX card finally given up, an Nvidia 8400GS which had coped admirably considering it was a budget card i threw in to keep costs down.

Replaced it with a 450 GTS ... went to load comp ... and wasnt behaving, blue screening etc? thought it would be the drivers? got it loaded and removed old and then updated drivers and still wasnt working...

Error message had appeared on BIOS screen saying CPU unworkable F1 to continue, CMOS reset, Check CPU Soft settings.
So i reset all defaults. and nothing?
Reset the motherboard to factory settings (with the 2 pin bridge on the board?) and nothing?

Error message is still there?
Guessed the CPU had packed in or was finely succumbing to being overclocked for such time, was looking for a small upgrade anyway? so ordered another... E6500 Duo...

Popped this in. and nothing. comp turns on and off but no screen readout. tried re-seating the CPU but nothing?

Popped my old CPU back in and it loads fine? (with the original issues still... F1 to load and occasional blue screens?

Is this CPU compatible with my mobo? (believed it was?)
Or do i have another issues? Mobo died? etc

Cheers, for any help given, appreciated.

Its a bog standard cheapo job ... Casecom.. off another site 600w
(its the next thing inline to be replaced)

Thought it might not have the juice to run the new GFX card, etc, so slipped another 8400GS i have in the house into the comp and still the same issues and error messages about the CPU?

Nah nothing...

Will try that all, just the BIOS says CPU error... yet a new CPU doesnt work and the old will load, work fine then crash? odd....

Ok, so with the old CPU E2160...

Loads with everything, 1 RAM in every slot, tried with both sticks of ram.
Still get the error message...

With new cpu E6500... still just turns on and off constantly... this CPU appears completely dead? RMA?

Confused :/

Flashed upto the lastest BIOS of v18... was stable and no issues.

Will try the new CPU later and see if i still get the errors about the CPU.

Right, tried everything tonight, booted with 1 stick of ram in each slot... same issues.

Ran Mem test on one stick of ram at a time, no faults.
This did however remove the error message about the CPU (odd?)

Rebooted a few times, and appeared to have fixed? no blue screens, no errors?

Tried new processor which booted (BIOS flash musta worked... Cheers Dsteviedee)

But the error message was back, and any kind of prolonged stress on the CPU led to a blue screen.

I think im gonna have to admit the mobo has died.

Oki... im back...

Managed to get hold of another mobo... mates EVGA 650i ultra... (my old one coincidently)

and guess what.. error issues are still there...

reset the cmos on the board... same issues...

Im baffled... not the cpu (tried and brand new one)... memtest on ram passed fine... flashed bios to latest bios... nothing... different mobo brings up same issues?

Any ideas?

Both CPU's half work now... the BIOS update brought the 45nm processor into play... but exact same issues.

This different mobo im 80% sure about, it was faultlessly in use for a year, been in a box for about 3 months now not being used.

The first GPU is dead for certain, wont even show a screen on the different mobo.
Was the first thing to go... errors with display drivers and then more frequent BSODS. Then nothing.

Is it likely there is a fault with both sticks of RAM? Tried both in various slots and as individual sticks?

Installing hardware in the wrong manner is possible... but not the first PC I've built and upgraded plenty (family/friends etc)

This one has me baffled though.

Yes was my thoughts with the RAM?

The newer 4nm processor wont boot at all in the 650i... gonna flash the bios and see if that helps and see if that fixes the issues..

Thing with both CPU's in the old mobo is that they both bring up the same error message? CPU unworkable or has been changed.

Googled this error and it just leads me to everything i have tried? reseating the CPU... resetting the CMOS etc? Most people with this error dont get the BSODS in accompaniment... or only get them after BIOS changes? But after a lot of overclocking i have never received this message once? Was only after the change of GPU?

Lost me aswell mate... infuriating as the how setup seems to run stable... but wont boot any games? :/ and will BSOD and varying times, no pattern.

Edit - Just read somewhere that it could be the battery on the mobo being dead? (not sure what the battery is for... CMOS is done by jumpers now? or is the battery still involved?)

I have got the old CPU working... and re-clocked to 3.4ghz in the 650i...
Was the RAM voltage, needed 2.1 and was only supplying 1.8 ... odd as it always supplied enough when I owned it before? :/
Something minor I just kept missing... checked voltage so many times!

Will be looking into this on the IP35-e now... Might just work!

But for now I can game again! On a stable machine!

Thanks for all the tips and pointers!

Although i managed to corrupted all the data on my HDD.. just didn't like all the crashes :/
No Backup either... silly me!

Yep all fans spin, TP is applied as a small pea in the middle of the cpu..

When in windows Coretemp is showing me decent idle and load temps.

650i works... E2160 works...
RAM works... GPU works...

IP35-e still have no clue... E6500 unsure aswell.
