Hi Guys.

I have an old PC which my nephew has asked for to get into PC gaming. though i think the processor is knackered.

Asus M4A79XTD Evo AMD 790X (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard (old motherboard)

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition 125W 3.40GHz (Socket AM3) Processor (old processor)

Could someone please spec me a CPU i can buy and fit to get the machine going again for him? im not great with matching which parts will work with what. i know its a bit of an ask as the machine is quite old now, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

cheers
Ves.

weve moved on to AM3+ socket so youll struggle to buy something new to go into the board.

what makes you think the cpu is knackered?

I still rate the Phenom II x6 1090t but i wouldnt like to spend money on a cpu to discover the board is at fault

I dropped it and bent the pins. got them all straight but the computer never booted up again. thats the only part i ever took out of the PC, so it has to be the problem.

yea thats possibly done it..

you could look for a 2nd hand CPU to drop in but depending on how much your willing to spend you could put together a new board and CPU for him.

your current board doesnt support any CPU's that are available to buy new sadly.
