Cpu upgrade, FPS increase guesses?

At 4k you are GPU bound, so maximum fps isn't going to be massively higher. It's impossible to put exact numbers on anything though.

I'd expect your minimum fps to be the most noticeable difference though, which should mean that gameplay is smoother.

I think it will be the minimums which will make the difference.

For example I went from a 8350 to Ryzen 1600. Whilst the fps increased by around 20fps at least, it is the minimums which has made so much difference in the BF1 experience now, the game is very very smooth now.

Yeah I was talking minimums, isnt the caching of new assets something that is CPU bound? or other processing out of the FOV? Something like that anyway

What would you guys recommend, going intel for a good bang for buck? I was thinking an i7 7820x skylake looked like a good option, £500 or something

If you upgrade your CPU to something modern, you will need a new board and RAM. That CPU is sandy based, 2011 technology. very obsolete, as is the board.
All systems now use DDR4, which you also do not have. This will be costly.

if you do upgrade look at a Ryzen 7 1700 or an i7 8700K, which are 8c16t and 6c12t parts respectively. The Ryzen 7 is more capable if you're able to push it hard, but the Intel chip clocks higher and should be a better gamer, due to optimization differences.
