Hello all,
Currently got an E6300 in our HTPC, need a few upgrades to run nicely. First up is a 1gb > 2gb upgrade. Next is CPU upgrade, I'd like an E6600 or E6700 but they're soooo damn expensive, would a lower cpu in the E4xxx range be such a big performance hit? I can stick the E6300 in my new homeserver setup that is almost ready to go...what ya all reckon?

im not seeing any point going from e6300 to e6600. get q6600, e8400 , e8500, one of them would be good. if you will not overclock get e8500 comes already good clock

Considered overclocking it, should give the boost? Otherwise you might be well off waiting until the Penryn chips get some low-end alternatives out there.

no support for quads or 1333 fsb chips. nor 45nm chips. thus my asking....
surely a speed bump from 1.86 ghz to 2.4 will make a difference?
