hey guys ive been thinking of upgrading my i7 920 sometime this year not exactly sure when it depends when i recover from the price of buying an ati 6990 lol im currently using a p6t deluxe v2 great motherboard but dead tech now :(

so what do you recommend go for an i7 2600k or hold off for a newer cpu as i'm not sure when i'm going to be upgradeing i've heard about ivy bridge but this wont be till 2012 ? is that correct.

my i7 is at 4.3ghz already and i will be buying an ati 6990 i just sold my ati 5970 so those 2 are coverd i was just wondering if its worth buying an ivy bridge cpu once there released. and so the 2600k isnt that much better ? cheers guys

i7's are beasts but what i'd like to know how it compares to a 2600k overclocked to the same as my 1st gen i7 or wether it would be better to wait for ivy bridge next year and go for a new motherboard with a lg2011 socket.

Sounds like a good plan to me, although I think that you have dismissed SSDs too quickly, it's not just boot times at which they excel, they just make everything snappier. Yes the price per GB is high, but they are, in my opinion, worth it for an OS and programmes drive, £140 for an ~80gb one isn't terrible value and is enough for your OS and a few games/programmes.

yeah i hear you i will give it a think its definatly tempting dude they look awesome its just the price that puts me off but if i have any spare cash left one day soon i'll definatly give it some thought. do they consume a lot less power as well ? or more?

I see what you mean. I thought you meant you wanted to chuck it ASAP as it's useless.

You're right, 2 and a bit years. I was looking at the mobile version.

yeah :) i'm in no rush to ditch it i love my i7 i was just wondering about a cheeky upgrade sometime this year and since sandybridge isnt that much better ivy bridge will be the time to upgrade and thats a good year off so that makes me happy :D :P
