Hey guys, just need a bit of help. I want to upgrade my CPU but dont know what the best is for my budget. I am an amd user as my current cpu is an fx 4350 i believe and my GPU is an r9 280x windforce. Please can you tell me the best cpu upgrade within a budget of £200, this can include the cpu, a cooler new motherboard whatever. This is all going towards improving my performance on arma 3.

Current spec: nzxt s340, 600w power supply, 250 ssd, 1tb hdd, r9 280x windforce 3gb, gigabyte am3 + motherboard, amd fx 4350 cpu, 8gb ram, stock fans.

New to this site so if i missed anything out lemme know.

Thanks in advance

If you could tell us the motherboard model. Download speccy and it will list it in there. My thoughts are to get with fx 8320 or 8350 and a water cooler. Then you could overclock it. Arma is cpu intensive so an overclock would help but it does depend on the motherboard. If it's not a good overclocker then I can recommend a better board with a cheaper air cooler to keep you in budget.

If you are comfortable with overclocking you can save money with the 8320 and it should hit pretty much the same speed, either CPU will see you right and the price difference between the two is not so great anymore anyway.

It's the gigabyte 78lmt-usb3 I have never over cloaked before but it seems that getting the 8320 while a decent cooler and new motherboard is a stronger option however for £20 extra the 8350 to me makes more sense as it has a higher clock speed

I know this is over budget but this is a good board for over clocking. I used it personally and the cooler and cpu will see you right.

What do I gain from changing mobo

Sell your old stuff to make up the extra £44.47

Hard to find reviews ATM but...

4.8ghz overclocked FX8320 vs 3.9ghz skylake, intel kills it still. I'd bet the i5 6400 3.3ghz beats it too.

The i5 6600 (none K) is also available quite cheap now too. That would probably fit in your budget if you sell your old stuff.

Plus you get to have DDR4, the latest intel socket and not investing in some old socket.

Ok thanks so I may need to upgrade in the future it seems

You gain the ability to have a better overclock with the newer board. Also if it is possible to stretch your budget I would get the i5 bundle as it's a far superior chip that would give you a massive performance boost in arma 3
