Hi all
Just curious what you would choose for a gaming CPU with the current offerings.
My partner is rocking an Intel i5 4xxx generation cpu, which I built for her probably 6/7 years ago now.
It is used for gaming, she doesn't play the latest AAA titles, but we are looking for something more up to date and capable to play modern games.
I've always been an intel man after, other than the first amd 64 bits years ago, but after that stuck with intel, but seems AMD are more than capable these days of keeping up with intel.

I'm considering either an Intel 12600k but i'm wondering which AMD processor would be equivalent or better than the i5, or whether to stick with intel?

Many thanks
Jason

Thanks for your replies all.
@chaparral you raise a good point, and one that I should have mentioned at the start.
We're looking for powerful and will last for a number of years, the 12600k is around £240 so I'm hoping to spend around that, or maybe a little less, I am even considering a 13400F now, its around £210 and should be plenty powerful enough.
It will initially be paired with a nvidia gtx 1060 6gb graphics card, which will eventually (hopefully later in 2024) be replaced with maybe a 4060 or similar.
The AMD 7800x3d looks impressive, but unfortunately I think the price is a bit too high for this build, if my partner regularly played AAA titles then we would have course consider a chip like that, but for the games it would be used for that amd chip would be overkill.

Thanks again all for your replies.

Happy new year.
