Hi guys,

I have an off the shelf Dell Dimension 9150 with an Intel P4 640 3.2Ghz HT processor. Can anyone advise which, if any, faster CPU's I could use without changing the motherboard. I think a Pentium D 940 dual core might be possible with my existing chipset. I dream about an Extreme Edition but thats just it - a dream!

Reason for upgrade

I'm currently crunching for Seti@home on the BOINC projects and since they went to SETI enhanced the crunch times have increased alarmingly. Its either a case of using more pc's or getting faster ones. Fron the specs the D940 with 2x2mb cache should give a 50% increase in computing power over the 640 with 1x2mb cache.

Now I know it will fit, I can pick one up from about £155, just need to decide if the cost is worth it.

Thanks very much for all the help.

Chris
