CPU Upgrade Options?

Current system is running with;

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z77
CPU: Intel i5 2550K
Ram: 16GB DDR3

I want to upgrade my CPU ideally to 8th/9th gen (bit more research still to be done hence this post.) To upgrade from my current CPU I will need to buy a new Motherboard and RAM.

Trying to explore all options at the moment, with an emphasis on "best bang for buck" or is there a good middle ground option i.e. 5th/7th gen?

Alternatively I use AMD rx570 GPU so would a Ryzen build be a good option with an AMD GPU?

no point going 5-7th gen, might as well slap in i7 2700k , go Ryzen for Value or i7 9700k for meaningful upgrade

also depends on your budget as well, your GPU and what resolution and hz you game at

At this stage I'm considering to just bite the bullet and go for straight upgrade.
Makes most sense as my current setup is becoming outdated and maxing out with my current setup is not going to see significant returns for the price to do so.

I'd rather future proof now than come to a limitation later. Thanks for the reply
