CPU Upgrade Queries

Hi all,

I just had some questions regarding the upgrade of my current CPU.

My current CPU is the Intel-i5 4670K (OC'd @ 4.0GHz). My cooler is the Corsair H80i, PSU is the SuperFlower Leadex (750W) and motherboard is the MSI Z87-G45.

I was thinking of upgrading to an i7 (4790K). Is this recommended? If I was to swap for a different CPU, will I need to configure anything extra or will it just be as simple as plug & play?

Thanks.

All a i7 has over the i5 is hyperthreading, so in most situations not a lot of point.

As long as bios is upto date will be plug and play.

O would check the BIOS revision your currently on, you might need to update the latest, once this is done you can install the 4970k.

I do a fair bit of video editing and want to stream games in the short future.

more threads would help in that case, but that said a better motherboard would also help. for the extra threads to work you need to have leftover power from your main cores and if you can only hit 4ghz on a 4670k you may need a better board.

i would think a 4670k would do 4.5Ghz(ish),
What GPU do you have as more GPU power will also be needed when streaming games.

MSI GTX 770 2-way SLI and yeah, I'm only running this on 4GHz until I get a bigger case + cooler for my CPU.

Corsair H80i should be upto the job of 4.5Ghz
770's are not the best because of only 2gb Vram however they should be upto the job of running mid setting when streaming depending on the game.

if your serious about getting into streaming then an i7 is a move in the right direction, why now wait for the new cpu's and get the i7 on the cheap

I'll have to upgrade my mobo and ram then. Currently on Z87.
