CPU Upgrade Question

Hi there
A very basic question but......if I am upgrading my CPU from, say an
AMD 4000+ to an AMD FX-60, is it necessary to reformat my hard drive ??
Going from a single core to a dual core I assumed I would have to, but always best to check.
I am running a ASUS A8N-SLI Premium motherboard which, according to the manual, supports Athlon 64, 64 X2 and Athlon FX.
So in theory I should be able to upgrade from my present 4000+ to an FX-60?

Many thanks in advance for your help and patience

cheers
