I currently have a phenom 9650 on a Asrock N68-S mobo.

At some point soon i would like to upgrade just the cpu, but im unsure what if any the next cpu would be that would work with my motherboard.

I don`t want to spend that much money on this, so a i7 cpu and mobo is ruled out already.

any help ideas appreciated..

well, think all of the current Phenom II processors will slot into AM2+ motherboard, might need a BIOS update, not sure about speed increase i guess you'd have to wait for one of the people more upto date with AMD to answer that. :) but even then for dual-core your talking about £70 - 80 and quad-core more like £100, unless of course you can find them somewhere else online.

You're in luck, your motherboard supports a decent number of AM3 CPUs. :)

You could even run this CPU:

However for gaming this would be a nice upgrade:

The only limitation is that your motherboard isn't compatible with the 125W CPUs such as the Phenom II X4 chips.
