CPU Upgrade: Xeon to ????

Hi folks

Currently run a Xeon Intel E3 1230 V3 Quad-Core Processor (3.3GHz, Base 1150, 8MB Cache)

It is on a MSI 1150 socket mini itx motherboard, coupled with a Zotac 1080 mini.

Now i have been questioning playing a few games recently on whether my Xeon is handling games like it should at 1440p.

Im playing games currently like far cry 4 and fallout 4 though FPS has been dipping when on ultra, and even high settings. I have read though that these games have not been optimised very well but i am still uncertain if perhaps its the CPU bottle necking or just game issues.

Long story short, is it worth an upgrade or is it just these examples of games?

Any suggestions on what to upgrade to?

Did not see that :) Sorry!
I have more or less the same cpu (4770) and when I upgraded to ryzen there was not much in it at 1080p with a gtx 1070.
You will notice even less at 1440p. Can you not enable all core boost on that motherboard? I know that xeon can run at 3.7ghz on all cores.

Nope, you will notice minimal difference with gaming. I have 2 computers, one with 4790k and other with Ryzen 7 1700. Playing games at 1440p I didn't notice a difference with my 1080 GPU.

If your GPU is flat out 99% usage when the dips happen, then it's not a CPU bottleneck it's just your GPU giving it all it has. Have you got Afterburner installed?

Is it 2560*1440 or 3440*1440? Far Cry 4 could push a 1080 pretty hard at ultra 1440p, especially when driving.

I think afterburner is installed although i dont think it is running while playing. Yeah indeed on ultra 1440p, flying and deiving could be a 6-10 fps drop and while in dense vegetation maybe 12 fps drop
