CPU upgrade

Having just bought 4gig of ram and an 8800 gtx im not sure if the board has to go next.. currently running a gigbyte 965p ds3 with an older presler cpu at 3.4ghz...

Im told (correct if wrong the current penryn quad will work ok with it?

Is it worth going Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) for thr 160ish quid?

and will it run ok? big difference?

You will need a p35 or x38 to get a good clock on a quad.

not that i overclock realy, its stability more than anything.. and anyway wouldnt my ram hold me back?

No you would run 400x 9 on the quad giving you 3.6ghz.

The ram would be running at stock.

With great mobos like the Abit p35 -E that will easliy get 3.6ghz for 65 quidwhy have a 965 chipset mobo.

interesting thanks, i can get the board brought back from a mate in a few months so the DS3 will have to do for now. Im about to order the q6600 will the difference be noticable?

Also looking at a sycth ninja or tuniq tower, will it go ok on the board and in a lian li case with only 3 cd drive bays.. ( sorry not sure of model)
