my friend has just brought a HP desktop that has a intel e2140. hes got 4Gb of ram and a 8800gt and wants to upgrade to a quad core possibly or atleast a faster duel core. he cant find info on the mobo so im guessing its a hp one but seeing as the cpu he has is a 775 does he have any restrictions on what other 775 chip he puts in it?

If it has an E2140 it should take any Core 2 Duo. It may not support the Quad series though. You would need to check the motherboard/HP site. There should be a model number on the board somewhere or check HP site for BIOS updates.

What is your friend using his PC for. If he is not using and software that benefit from using four cores then i would say his best bet would be to overclock that thing assuming he has knowledge of how to do such a thing. Anyway reading some articles on the internet of how to overclock your PC while not going mental with the FSB is very safe to do :)
He should see quite an incease in performance by doing that and plus it costs nothing.

well i mentioned OCing but he has no knolage of it at all and also hes only had the pc 5 days and dont wanna mess it up. i will let him know though.
