CPU Upgrade....

I have got both a i7 975 and a i7 980. Both similar to what you want to go from and to. Unless you have something that can use six cores I would say no.

There will not be any improvement in playing games.

If you do need six cores I would sugest going for an i7 3930k plus new mobo. This will give a huge improvement in performance over a 920 (much higher ocing, more cores, and better performance per core.)

The other alternative is to wait until next year and go for the new Haswell platform.
