I've just installed vista upgrade "business" and while everything appeared to go ok, I've noticed that in task manager the cpu useage is 100% with "TIWLANCu.exe" running at about 90% so I reckon its this running thats slowing everything down. I think its summat to do with me wireless adapter.
Anyone have any info regarding this?

is your wireless adapter connecting to a network succesfully, i know that my netgear wireless card locks up my pc on a regular basis if it doesnt connect to a network, so i have to disable it whilst im at uni

I'm using a safecom wireless adapter atm and a netgear wireless router. Everything works fine except for the 100% useage. I've since uninstalled the adapter software and the cpu useage has dropped down a lot and it now fluctuates between 0% up to about 45% which is better but not ideal.
Also, me harddrive appears to working overtime, with the activity led on the front of me case blinking like mad ALL the time and that buzzing noise that some h/ds will make is driving me crazy, is this normal and is there anything I can do about it? I've tried shutting down stuff on startup but it makes no difference or so it appears.
I've also tried farcry as a game test using the latest vista drivers for me x1800xt and performance is deffo lacking there also, down about 20%-30% I reckon.
Not too impressed atm unless I can get some info as to how to cure these probs.
This is on the kid's pc btw, not the one below in me sig.

Update. Just tried reinstalling the wireless adapter drivers and its a total no go, either the adapter or drivers (I think its the adapter) are incompatible with vista! Funnily enough they worked ok when vista was loaded on the pc, but they caused the cpu to run at 100%
I really have my doubts with this operating system in being able to run it on me pc properly from the off, probably due to lack of support from third party manufacturers. Whatever the reason, it a no go fro me and I've reverted back to good old XP, at least that works as it should.

some hardware vendors, especially those who make tv cards and network adapters have a tendancy to atm just drop support for their products and are instead developing new ones due the heavily revamped way in which vista interfaces with drivers and hardware...its annoying but some vendors do this...i know my netgear one currently has 0 support under vista...which could be amusing when i go back home and have to use it again...guess i should really get it working before then :o

Hmm.. well I'm testing vista out for a mate with a business set up and no way would recommend him to use this. It needs to have 100% compatibility with current hardware and at least run just as fast as XP pro.
Its a nice interface and looks pretty but looks aren't everything and he and myself can't afford to spend time sorting out the various probs I've found so far when his business data might be at risk.
For home use its ok suppose, but no backwards compatibility with certain hardware (me wireless adapters 'frinstance) meaning no internet access with any pc that vista is installed in our house is a no-no, try explaining that to a 15 year old (no msn, music downloads, etc) and you'll know what I mean :p .
Think I'll wait until its properly sorted and try it then.
