I'm running a Dell Optiplex 760 which has an Intel E2220 cpu, on which i'm running Oracle's (they've finally renamed it !) Virtual Box. I can install 32-bit o/s' fine but it wont let me install 64-bit even though the host o/s is 64-bit W7. It gives me an error message saying the cpu isn't 64-bit compatible. I know the cpu doesn't support VT-x but does that only affect 64-bit VMs ?

VT-x is needed for running 64 bit guests.

I run windows 7 64 bit pro on my laptop and can only run 32bit virtual machines in vmware because my cpu does not support VT-x.

Ben :)

If it is of any use there is a solution based on the open source code of Virtualbox called VMlite that I think supports this in software without VT-x.

It's not really a problem that I've installed the 32-bit version as I'm not really using any if the features. Although my Opteron server doesn't have it either and I want to install Hyper-v on it :(
