I'm working through the joys of PID controller specifications in the spirit of understanding control electronics, and motivation will be easier to come by if I can apply the results to computers.

If one sets a specific voltage, say 1.3V for vcore in the bios, there will be some form of controller which tries to keep the output voltage at roughly 1.3V. I'm curious as to the implementation, whether it's pid (in which case what properties is it tuned for, what is an acceptable overshoot) or whether it's something more exotic which I'll have to learn new things to understand.

There's at least a few guys knocking about these forums who could point me in the right direction here, with luck one of you will spot this thread. Google is throwing up a lot of false positives for this, largely as I'm unsure what to search for.

Cheers
