It seems to be hard to find a definitive answer, but I was wondering if anyone knows what has the most significant impact on Davinci Resolve performance.
I have recently started editing a bit, and while my current rig is no slouch, it already takes a good chunk out of my time and sometimes slows down during previews/applying effects/stabilisation/renders can take quite a while.
Most of the vids are 1440p or 4k at 30 or 60fps.
My current setup:
Custom water cooling loop with 420mm rad
3600x (boosts on all cores to 4.2ghz)
32gb 8pack 3200mhz Dark Pro mem, OCed to CL17 3866mhz
Vega 56 Nitro
I have few SSDs/NVMe for software and games but mostly use 6TB HDD to store videos
Old Asus VI Hero Formula 470x but still supports Ryzen 3rd gen so shouldn't have issues with upgrades there
Now I was looking at 3900, 3900x (I don't think the move to 3700/3800 will be noticeable? - it's just two more cores?). 3950x crossed my mind but I don't think the extra £250-300 over 3900x is worth it for extra 25-30%.
I don't think getting more than 32gb of RAM will help but I could be wrong? Don't know anything about editing performance.
Shall I get something an extra 500gb-1TB SSD and put everything on there whilst editing instead of pulling media from the 6TB storage HDD?
Not sure how much GPU matters here - will swapping it to any other model help in a big way (driver support etc maybe or Davinci works better with specific tech?).
Any input is appreciated.
Many thanks
