CPU water or air?

I’m currently running my 6600 oc'ed to 3.6ghz but this is causing me some heat issues with the processor. I currently have a zalman flower, but its still getting hot. On Ai booster around 50 under load and core temp 80. I choose the zalman as it was silent and it does its job well its just my extreme oc!

So I’m thinking of getting some new cooling with my bank charge refund that came through today :D

Do I go for:

The Titan Amanda
OR
A cheap water cooling kit just for the processor like the Thermaltake Bigwater?

I’m looking for a solution under £70

Cheers,

Whatever you decide, just dont buy that Therm..... thing.

ps: Dont even type/spell that word, is BAD LUCK! :)

I thought the Thermaltake Bigwater SE looked KEWL  for a WC noob ;) and I would assume it would easily out perform my zalman?

heres a nice little £10 solution. get some fine sandpaper, and lap your CPU. a lot of the E6600s seem to have concave IHSes these days, I lapped mine, and it dropped my temps by a massive 10 to 15 degrees.

Cheap watercooling does'nt really do it.

I'm sorry but quality always comes at a price. For a watercooling begininer i'd say buy a Swiftech 120.2 kit; comes with good components and produces good temps. Another good feature is that it is a good basis for changes and upgrades in future.

The OP would probably benefit from more from high-end air cooling imho.

I've never had to lap a heatsink but then I've never had a a concave ihs either.

yup you only get what you pay for, wait till next pay day and do it properly. add the lapping to it and you're laughing :)

Either get a high end cooler, or spend decent money on water.

I've pretty much given up on watercooling, its too much hassle for the benefit it brings, and high end air cooling can really do a good job.

cheers, never actually tried water cooling so thats good to know. I was under the illusion WC was pretty much hassle free these days and gave huge benifits over air :o . Then seeing as I will be having to spend a lot more money with WC to see any real benifits I have decieded to go with the Titan Amanda TEC then :D

I checked my cpu temp when runnig orthos for a couple of hours and asus AI temp showed over 60degrees  So I think I will definitely be seeing a benifit over my zalman aero flower :)

Sorry to butt in on this thread but it's kind of relevent of what I'm up too.. if someone could kindly explain the quote below (Socaddict), I would be most grateful, especially as I have a E6600 on board.

My E6300 that arrived this morning was big time concave, lapped it until flat+Swiftech WCing = 20C whilst ripping CD's at 3.0 and 1.3ish Volts.
