Hello

The CPU is a square chip yes? on one side of the cpu in the middle, where the copper contact is, where the motherboard pins make contact, so there are small bits of welded metal, one of the parts have broken off...

Will that cause a issue, will it work?, the welded part does not look like a capacitor, im not sure what it is or what it does.

So if the metal bit in the middle of the CPU has broken off, just 1 bit, all the others are ok, will the CPU work?

its a i9 7980 by the way, or can it be repaired /?

thanks

Are you talking about one of the surface mounted components on the contact side of the CPU?

If so it may still work and I don't think you'll hurt anything by trying.

If the pads it should be soldered to are intact it could be soldered back on. Do you still have the component that came off?

no, its the metal blob like object on the contact side of the cpu, the copper contacts are all ok but in the middle there are 5 blocks of metal, one of them came off, some guys selling this 800 quid cpu for 75 quid, he states he doesnt have the facililty to check it,
its a risk, if it doesn't work then its a loss of 75-100 quid, if it works then wow

bidding ends in20 mins

I had a closer look, I don't think ebay listing is even 7980xe, as it looks very different from actual 7980xe.

Look at the underside photo of ebay listing:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Intel-Core-i9-7980xe-Sr3rs-2-60ghz-/173641439538?nma=true&si=hkFeeHbHQmsZSi2LVaecV9peYJo%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

and now look at the photo of phoronix photo:
https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=intel-7980xe-extreme&num=1

Phoronix shows chip centre a lot more populated with capacitors than what ebay listing shows
aah man you are right!!!

a failed delid attempt, not a 7980, the seller must have known this, the pictures of his finger nail holding the cpu was disgustingly dirty, the cpu back side is also heavily worn out, which hides that actual make of the cpu, also the corner of the cpu caved in abit, im pretty sure the buyer who lost his money will make a claim, lol and the seller offered to send me more pictures haaa i really thought it was real until OCUK detectives discovered the truth...
