CPU with the fastest core

The image shows the reason for my question looking at the 100% load on core #3

core100.jpg

I would like to buy a new CPU but I need one with the fastest running single core.
What CPU has the fastest core?
I think it's the Intel Core i7 990X 3.46GHz or is it just faster as it has 6 cores.
How much faster would the fastest core be compared to the CPU I am running at the moment @ 3.80MHz.

Sorry if the question is a bit dumb as reading it back it looks dumb to me :(

But I get confused with all this Core#, Frequency, Multiplier, L2 Cache, L3 Cache, QPI, TDP talk.

Overclocking the CPU is not a option so would need to be stock speed as I have big cooling problems that can't be helped.

Thanks

Sorry for the long delay in replying to the thread I started.

Thanks for your time & help.

The program that is only using one core is MS Flight Sim X so nothing exciting.

I already have one of the best cases for air flow cooling & a good CPU Fan the problem is my PC is under the stairs so it's trapped in a small space that gets warm/hot quickly.

I am thinking of making a hole in the outside facing wall & adding a fan to take the heat away & draw cooling air in from the rest of the house but I have not got to that stage yet.

Looking at what has been posted I would be better sticking with what I have for now & maybe work on the cooling as I play other games that use all the cores I don't want to make them slower.

Will wait a year & see what's out then.
