just done an upgrade from parts bought from the forums and when using cpu-z the clock speed and multiplier setting keep changing.

is this a problem with the software or maybe something hardware orientated?

all seems stable apart from this.

spec:

E6600 o/c to 3.25 (9x360)
P5K
2 x 1gb Pc6400
Xp pro (fresh install)

any more info needed then please ask

thanks in advance for any help ;)

Probably EIST/C1E etc at a guess. In other words is the Multiplier/Frequency lower when you are at idle and ramping back up under load?

CPU power saving at work if that is the case.

So many threads on this, it really needs to be stickied. Your CPU is clocking down to save power when idle.

new to Intel cpu's as always had AMD.

if i leave cpu-z on and sit and watch for a few minutes the multiplier changes from 9 to 6 and then back up every few seconds.

i have no other software running so no load on the processor.
