For some reason CPU z is switching its reading on my overclock, I have is set on multipiler set on auto in tthe bios for the e6300 (which is x7). But its switches between 6 and 7. So set it to 7 and it does the same?
Any ideas, full spec in sig. Many thanks in advance. P

speedstep is on, google or search for a full explanation.

to disable ,turn off c1e and e1st normally

but there is no need to turn it off. unless yo think its creating instability, which to be honest is very very rare.

it under clocks your processor, saves power.

Awesome, sorted many thanks again. I take it if \i leave it it will run at 7 when required, then 6 when nothing is happening?

I've heard you should turn off SpeedStep if you have overclocked your CPU. Running custom voltages and clocks puts an extra unnecessary strain on the clock generator when it has to switch speeds.

Anyone else heard this before?

Just turn it off. If you ran a company with 10's or 100's of PC's running all day then thats the time to turn it on.

Why turn it off. It saves you energy which saves money and doesn't make any difference to your overclock in my experience. It also allows your computer to run cooler by only running the clock speed up when something needs it.

Most of us do a lot of web browsing, chatting on IM clients etc. These are all times when your processors CPU does not need to be running at full pelt and speedstep and the new version slow your processor down at these times.
